It is 8,848.86 meters high.

Language points

1.  population

population意为“人口数量”，谓语动词要用单数形式。询问人口数量时要用“What’s the population of ...?”提问，而不用how many或how much等提问。表示人口“多”要用large 或 big；表示人口“少”要用small。 

这个城市的人口是600万。

The population of this city is six million．

中国的人口比美国的人口多很多。

The population of China is much larger than that of the USA. 

2. man-made 

为合成形容词，意为“人造的”。英语中像这样与-made复合而成的形容词还有：handmade(手工制作的)、homemade (家庭制作的)、machine-made  (机制的)等，用以描述产品的生产或制造手段、特点等。

这种鱼都是自家做的。

This kind of fish is homemade.

feel free是英语口语中一个常用表达。若有人让你feel free to do something，就是让你无需拘束，只管按照自己的意愿去做某事。e.g. 

A: Can I use your computer?  

我可以用一下你的电脑吗？

B:  Yes, feel free.可以，请随意。

4. As far as I know, there are no man-made objects as big as this.

据我所知，再没有像它这样大的人造物体了。

as far as I know是一个固定的表达方式，还可以

说so far as I know，意思是“据我所知”。

As far as I know, China is a very large country.

就我所知，中国是一个非常大的国家。

They are very excited, so far as I know.

他们特别激动— 就我所知是这样的。

5. Qomolangma is 8,848.86 meters high. 

It is … meters high (long, wide…). 

它……米高(长,宽……)。

英语表示“有多长(宽，高……)”时，一般将数词和数量单位放在表示长宽高的形容词前作状语。

这座山高三千多米。 

The mountain is more than three thousand meters high.

它离我们只有三十八万公里。

It is only 380,000 kilometers away.

这座绿色长城长7,000公里。

The Green Great Wall is 7,000 kilometers long.

much higher 意为“高得多”。在形容比较级前还可以用much, even, a little, still ,a lot, less等修饰词表示程度。

6. It’s much older than my country. 比我的国家更古老。

他比我跑得更快。

He runs even faster than I. 

日本土地面积只比德国大一点儿。 

Japan is a little larger than Germany in area.

7. the Ming Great Wall 明长城

“明长城”是指明朝时期为了防御北方游牧民族的骚扰，历时一百多年在北部地区修筑的军事防御工程。这段长城东起辽宁虎山，西至甘肃嘉峪关，从东向西横贯多个省、 直辖市、自治区，全长约8851.8千米，是现存历代长城遗迹中最完整、最坚固的。
